Practice Individual Sounds (Consonants and Short Vowels)

Use these books to practice individual sounds with your child. In many schools, letters are not introduced in alphabetical order. Instead, children are introduced to the most frequent letters first and then in groups of letters that look or sound similar. These books can also be used to practice vowel-consonant (VC) and consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words.   

Roll & Read: use these word lists to practice reading words with your child. You can have them roll a dice and then read one word or all the words under the number they roll.  You can also play together and take turns rolling and reading words. This is also a great time to ask them questions about what the words mean and teach them new words. You can find an electronic dice roller by scrolling down to the bottom of this page.
